Trauma

Trauma

In my approach to trauma healing, I draw inspiration from pioneering thinkers who have illuminated the intricate connections between early experiences, emotional wounds, and long-term psychological patterns. Through a lens informed by the insights of these esteemed figures, I guide clients on a journey of self-discovery and healing, acknowledging the profound impact of past trauma on present-day functioning. By creating a safe and empathetic space, I support individuals in exploring the depths of their pain and vulnerability, uncovering the root causes of their distress. Utilizing a combination of compassionate listening, somatic techniques, and trauma-informed interventions, I assist clients in reprocessing and integrating their traumatic experiences, paving the way for greater resilience, self-awareness, and empowerment. My approach is grounded in a deep respect for the inherent dignity and worth of each individual, as we collaboratively navigate the path toward healing and wholeness.

Inner child

Inner Child Work, is a transformative journey of healing and self-discovery. This approach recognizes that our childhood experiences shape our beliefs, behaviors, and emotional patterns in adulthood. By accessing and nurturing the wounded aspects of our inner child, we can heal past traumas, release limiting beliefs, and cultivate a greater sense of self-love and acceptance. Drawing on techniques such as visualization, dialogue, and re-parenting, Inner Child Work empowers individuals to connect with their younger selves, provide the care and validation they may have lacked, and reclaim their innate sense of worthiness and wholeness. Through this process, clients can experience profound healing, emotional integration, and a renewed sense of vitality in their lives.

Depression and Anxiety

Depression and Anxiety

In my approach to addressing depression and anxiety, I recognize the multifaceted nature of these struggles, understanding that they often stem from a complex interplay of biological, psychological, and environmental factors, including potential underlying subconscious traumas. With a holistic and compassionate perspective, I guide clients on a journey of exploration and healing that honors the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. By creating a safe and nurturing therapeutic environment, I support individuals in uncovering the roots of their distress, gently exploring the depths of their subconscious to identify and address any unresolved traumas. Utilizing a variety of evidence-based techniques and interventions, alongside a deep respect for each individual's unique journey, I help clients cultivate greater self-awareness, resilience, and inner peace. Together, we work collaboratively to develop personalized strategies for coping with symptoms, fostering growth, and reclaiming a sense of vitality and well-being in their lives.

Transpersonal therapy and addiction.

Transpersonal psychotherapy offers a holistic approach to addiction recovery, integrating psychological, spiritual, and emotional dimensions to foster deep healing and transformation. This therapeutic modality recognizes that addiction often stems from underlying psychological issues, emotional pain, and spiritual disconnection. By addressing these root causes, transpersonal psychotherapy allows individuals to explore their relationship with themselves and their substance use in a safe and supportive environment. Through techniques such as guided imagery, mindfulness, and deep self-reflection, clients can gain insight into the subconscious motivations behind their addictive behaviors. This process encourages a reconnection with their inner selves, fostering a sense of purpose and meaning that can often be lost in the cycle of addiction. By cultivating self-awareness and facilitating spiritual growth, transpersonal psychotherapy empowers individuals to not only overcome their addiction but also to embrace a more fulfilling and authentic life. Ultimately, this integrative approach offers a pathway to healing that acknowledges the profound interplay between mind, body, and spirit, guiding individuals toward lasting recovery and personal transformation.

Somatic work with Trauma

Working somatically on trauma within the framework of transpersonal psychotherapy emphasizes the profound connection between the mind and body in the healing process. This approach recognizes that traumatic experiences are often stored not only in our memories but also in our physical bodies, manifesting as tension, discomfort, or emotional dysregulation. By integrating somatic techniques—such as breathwork, body awareness, and movement—transpersonal psychotherapy allows individuals to access and release these stored traumas in a safe and supportive environment. This embodied exploration encourages clients to connect with their physical sensations and emotions, facilitating a deeper understanding of their experiences and fostering healing at both psychological and physiological levels. Through this process, individuals can reclaim their bodily autonomy and restore a sense of safety and empowerment, paving the way for transformative personal growth. Ultimately, somatic work in transpersonal psychotherapy helps individuals integrate their traumatic experiences into their overall sense of self, promoting resilience, self-acceptance, and a more harmonious relationship with their bodies.

Testimonials

I started working with Chris 6 months after my dad died.

I’d been having some bereavement counselling before and it wasn’t working out for me; in fact it was making me feel worse.

But I immediately clicked with Chris.

He comes at everything from a place of compassion and understanding.

When I leave his sessions I always feel like I’ve been listened to, but also supported.

In the time we’ve been working together his wise counsel, kindness, and reassurance have been indispensable in helping me navigate my way through such a difficult time.

I think before having counselling I’d always imagined that counselling was an objective thing, but with Chris I always feel like he’s on my side; yes, giving me distance from things I might be too close to, but doing it because he’s got my best interests at heart.

I really can’t recommend him highly enough, and in fact, as proof of this, have done exactly that and know friends of mine who’ve gone on to work with him feel the same as I do.

James

Chris has been an absolute blessing in my life. Over a year ago, I lost two loved ones, my husband and mum, within four days of each other. A friend recommended Chris to me, and I am so glad that I reached out to him. It’s been a journey that has seen him support me through some of the darkest moments of my life and get me to a place today where I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. A good therapist doesn’t tell you what to do; they listen and guide you to make choices and find solutions that are right for you. Chris has given me the confidence to grow and navigate my challenges. He is a master in his field, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone. I could not have come as far as I have without his support!

FAQs

Find answers to common questions about our services, including session lengths, treatment modalities, and insurance coverage.

How long does therapy last?

I offer both short and long-term counselling and psychotherapy. Duration of therapy will depend on your presenting problem and the depth at which you wish to work. Therapy can be tailored to individual need. It can be used to effectively address an immediate issue or tackle deeper rooted issues and behaviours that may not be immediately obvious. In starting therapy, you are not committed to a specific period of work. Together we might set goals and review progress as we go which may include working towards an ending.

What happens in the first session?

During our first counselling session, I would conduct an assessment in order to explore your presenting issues. This will give you a feel for how I work and offers an opportunity to clarify any questions you may have. If we agree to work together, you would then usually come on a weekly basis for 50min sessions at regular agreed time for as long as is helpful.

I have never had therapy before and am unsure what to say or do?

Starting therapy can be a daunting task in which you can feel unsure regarding what to say or do. Sometimes just reaching out can be the hardest part. I aim to create a relaxed and trusting environment in which you can explore in your own words and time what may be troubling you. Often this can be hard to articulate or pin down precisely as it may be something quite stark and troubling or no more than a niggling feeling that needs teasing out. To this end establishing a strong therapeutic relationship is an important part of the process as it is of the utmost importance that you feel fully safe and comfortable to confide in me. The experience of talking to a therapist is different to confiding in family and friends. It is important that you feel completely free to speak, think and feel openly and honestly in the therapeutic space without the fear of upset or recrimination.

Will our sessions be confidential?

As a registered practitioner I adhere to the counselling and psychotherapy ethical framework of BACP. This includes the responsibility to manage your information confidentially and in line with GDPR. Confidentiality means that I will treat your personal information and what you share with me with utmost care and respect, and in line with the BACP ethical guidelines. I will share clinical work with my accredited supervisor who is also bound by confidentiality.

I will only break confidentiality should a safeguarding issue arise within your session. This includes risk of harm or neglect to your health or others. Should such a situation arise I am legally and ethically obliged to raise concerns with my supervisor and/or your GP. Where possible, I will aim to discuss this with you prior to making a disclosure outside of the counselling service.

Do you offer online sessions?

If you cannot make it to my consulting room in person, I am very happy to offer online counselling and psychotherapy sessions via zoom. Video session may form part or the whole of the treatment depending on your location and availability.
